Over the last three days, IBM’s Watson supercomputer has been playing Jeopardy – a familiar quiz show – with two of the best human players of all time. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Jeopardy, contestants are given answers and must guess the question. For example: ”He developed the theory of general relativity” , the question is: “Who is Albert Einstein”. It takes 2 to 8 seconds for the host to read an answer. At the end of that time, a human backstage enables a light. Contestants push a plunger and the first to do so can pose the question. If the contestant jumps the gun and pushes the button, he/she is not allowed to push again for a second or so.
